Natural Bridges National Monument is the first unit of the National Park service in Utah. On April 4, 1908 president Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed: "Whereas a number of natural bridges situated in southeast Utah having spans far greater than any heretofore known to exist...the public interest would be promoted be reserving these extraordinary examples of stream erosion".
